From the airport

The best way to reach Makrigialos on your arrival in Crete is to pick up a hire car at the airport. Not only is it the cheapest form of airport transfer, it is also the most convenient way to explore your east Crete surroundings, and the car can be dropped off at the airport on your return.

Directions to the Airport

As you drive from the airport, keep the sea & airport on your left hand side. Follow the National Road towards Agios Nikolaos;

As you approach the Stalis/Malia area you will encounter a roundabout – this is the new Malia bypass, go straight over, but be aware that in Greece traffic joining a roundabout has right of way

About 45-60 minutes after leaving the airport you reach a set of traffic lights as you come into Agios Nikolaos - turn right and follow the signposts for Ierapetra/Sitia

After 30-45 minutes you reach Pachia Ammos - as you leave this village turn right, signposted Ierapetra. Do not go straight on to Sitia!

As you enter Ierapetra, just at the point the road becomes a dual carriageway, turn left, signposted Sitia Follow the Ierapetra 'ring-road' round, and at the end, turn left

If you miss the turning, carry on until the traffic lights, then turn left

You will now be on the south coast road that takes you through Koutsounari, Ferma, Achlia, Koutsouras, and then some 30 minutes from Ierapetra, Makrigialos (re-signposted on the village boundaries in 2009 as Makry-Gialos)

Drive up a steep hill into Makrigialos. Continue through the village for 2 km. You will pass Sunwing Hotel on your right. After Sunwing Hotel you will see the new SENTIDO Mikri Poli hotel resort on your right.

Follow the road past a petrol station on the left and then the road automatically turns to the left, then after 300 meters turn right, and follow the road signposted Goudouras.

After 700 meters you will see the Lagada Resort Development on your left.
